About
After spending the summer of 1954 with my Father in Yakutat, Alaska, and most of it at two fish camps, I knew that I would eventually live permanently in Alaska. My Father sent me back home to my Mother in the Bay Area in California and two months later he put his Cessna 140 in the ocean. His body was never recovered. I moved to Astoria, Oregon in 1965 and married a commercial fisherman and assisted in fishing for salmon and tuna in Oregon and Washington and king crab in the Aleutians in Alaska. After the marriage ended I delivered mail in the Astoria countryside, sometimes during sleet and snow! During this period I returned to school, studied art and graduated with a BA in 1989. Finally in 1991 I returned to the Aleutians and coordinated the Grumman Goose flights out of Unalaska before spending four wonderful years living in Akutan; a small Unangan Native village close to Unalaska. I finally settled in Wasilla, Alaska, close to Anchorage, and retired in 2015 after 17 years of providing on site office and grant management assistance to tribes in the Aleutians and the Arctic Northwest.
